The Best Compliment I’ve Ever Received
I’ve been given a lot of compliments in my life. I was always in the “gifted” programs in school growing up. Once I started learning guitar on my own and writing my own songs, people were impressed with how “talented” I was.
But the thing about those compliments was I never truly believed them way deep down in myself.
I would say, “Thank you.” I would feel proud. Because I felt like yes, just conned another one into believing I had it all together.
As I got older and entered adulthood, I learned these kinds of things rarely mattered.
What matters is mindset, community, and having a clear direction.
And what matters most is having an unwavering belief in yourself, an unshakeable confidence that you WILL achieve anything you set your mind to.
When you have this kind of confidence, nothing is impossible.
I don’t take for granted the compliments I did receive while growing up, because when I’m having a moment of self-doubt I sometimes use those early memories to help me get back on track.
But I have learned now and have come to understand what a HUGE value that having self-confidence really is.
So about a year ago, when a co-worker was complimenting me on my confidence, I was floored. I felt truly proud and honored.
She said, “When my daughter grows up, I hope she has even just half as much confidence as you have.”
In that moment we were both recognizing that confidence is everything, and she felt I was a good example of what to emulate.
I don’t want children my self but still want to be a positive role model for future generations.
And to be passing on a message of confidence and self-love is definitely aligned to my purpose.
I know because when she said it, it nearly brought tears to my eyes.
To this day, it is the best compliment I have ever received.
But I want you to remember that I didn’t always feel this way, it took a long time of putting myself first, self-exploration, awareness, and acceptance to get to this point.
Now I know that anything is possible.
I know it for me and I know it for you.
I have seen it and my mission is to help you see it too.
Remember that you can transform your life. Believe you can.
Know it in your bones, then step out into the world with confidence and make it happen.
